Canon 5D Mark III Features Review

Hye there, if you are Canon 5D mark II enthusiast this review should be your perfect review if you are looking for new generation of 5D series especially in video making technology. Previously, 5D mark ii is not disappointing you in order to capture high quality photo or video. Now, does 5D mark iii will perform much better then 5D mark ii based on its new features. I believed this camera is the main topic which is discussed among videographer out there. Now let’s check it out :-)

This new 5D Mark III DSLR which is launched by Canon a few month ago, is a follow up to the 5D Mark II that offers a feature set that sits somewhere between its predecessor (especially Nikon) and 1D X which is also now released. The camera packs with a 22.3MP full-frame sensor which is seem a bit higher then previous, the 61-point AF system found in the 1D X make it faster than 5D mark II in focusing the subject., 63-zone metering, an ISO range of 100-25600 (you can expand it into 50-102400), 6fps continuous shooting, a 3.2-inch LCD (1.04M dots) with clear view, and 100% viewfinder coverage (up from 98%). Hrmm, it was the main key for this beast huh :-).

Ahaa, especially to those who are very serious in the video recording department, the 5D Mark III is able to capture H.264 footage at 1080p24/25/30 or 720p50/60 (still remain the same). In addition to a stereo mic input such as RODE professional mic or Seinheiser, the camera also features a headphone jack that allows you to monitor audio levels while recording which is the standard features for 3CCD camera. Another huge plus for filmmakers is the fact that the rear dial becomes touch sensitive during video recording, allowing you to change settings without shaking the camera or introducing clicking noises into your footage. We are already know that DSLR videography handling is a bit harder than ordinary camcorder so I think this dial will helps you to change the setting without disturbing your recording. But the HDMI port will only deliver 720p if you are using an external monitor to shoot out video. Maybe in the future it can support 1080p. Who knows right :-)

Canon has packed this 5D mark III with 22.3 megapixels, up from the 21.1 found in the 5D Mark II which is 1.2 megapixels higher. Although more pixels are crammed into the same dimensions, the new sensor uses the gapless micro lens design found in the 1D X, and should offer vastly improved low-light picture quality. Perfectly to those who hate the noise which is appear in the dark shots.

As the photo management become more important to photographers out there, the camera features a number of new buttons, including a rating button for starring photos (before we only can rate in using software such as ACDSee), a creative photo button similar to compact camera, and a dedicated Live View button, and a multi-function button next to the shutter release. The power switch has been moved to the top left next to the locking mode dial, and there’s a new rear dial-locking slider on the back. This is good if you are a clumsy person while taking the shot but you want to hold the same setting without changes.

Hermm, something which is new and pack with a new improvement will not always make you smile. Now we should look to one of the most important details about any new camera: the price. The Canon 5D Mark III will be priced at $3,500 for the body only, or $4,300 when bundled with the 24-105mm. I think this price is not very good to hear and will make the previous 5D mark II owner will reconsidering the worthiness to buy this new generation of 5D while the mark II is still relevance to capture superb both image and video. We should pray that the price will be revised by Canon.
